Funeral services for John C. Samples, Jr., 67, were held Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Living Worship International Ministries in Decator with Pastor Richard Johnson and Pastor Veronica Johnson officiating. Interment was held Monday, April 20, 2015 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. He died Wednesday, April 8, 2015.
Mr. Samples was born December 11, 1947 to Mr. and Mrs. John Carl Samples, Sr. in Swainsboro. He attended Emanuel County Elementary and High School, graduating in 1965. Soon after graduation, he joined the United States Army, serving from 1965 to 1969. He was a gifted and talented artist, carpenter, business owner and avid golfer. He also explored his interest in theater and television as an actor. He was cast as a central character in the cable television show Wally Knows Best, and two stage plays, Hell Is Not A Game Show and Christ Is Christmas. In 2008, he was ordained as an elder at Living Worship International Ministries in Decatur. He was joined in holy matrimony on December 26, 1970 to Frances B. Samples and they were married for 44 years. They had four children. He was preceded in death by one child, Angela D. Blanford, and one sister Linda Samples.
Survivors include his children, Terea Samples, Stacey C. Samples and Bryce C. Samples; three grandchildren; sisters, Mary A. Strobridge, Nancy Shimoyama, Andrea Elliot and Sophia Neal; brothers, Jerome Samples and Christopher Samples; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, sisters-and-brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Brantley, Thomas Crawford, Bobby Williams, Charles Roundtree, Steve Fitzgerald and Willie Monroe.
Williamson Mortuary and Riverdale Crematory had charge of arrangements.
