Eugene Curtis Pope, 94, of Soperton, died Monday, April 13, 2015 at Scott Health and Rehab. Interment was in Westview Cemetery in Soperton.
Mr. Pope was born in Laurens County, where he grew up, and lived in Soperton for most of his life. He was of the Church of God faith. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Mary Walden Pope; and siblings, Earnest Pope, Elton Pope, Eula Pope, Beatrice Muns and J.C. Pope.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Evelyn Shurling Pope; his children, Curtis (Paula) Pope, Roy Gene (Carolyn) Pope, and Helen Woods; grandchildren, Tina (Stacy) Smith, Shea (Mike) White, Shane (Cindy) Woods, Teresa (Kevin) Milton, Sheree Woods, Laurie (David) Carlton, Regina (Shawn) Ryan and Rodney Pope; great-grandchildren, Ashton (Kole) Pullen, Blake Smith, Aaron White, Austin Woods, Raegan Woods, Chelsea Hadden, Corbin Toler, Dillon Milton, Chase Milton, Kayla Carlton, Jacob Carlton, Ryan Pope, Alexis “Lexi” Pope and Anna Marie Pope; great-great-grandchildren, Karley Grace Pullen and Noah Hopkins; and a sister, Florene Burdge.
Pallbearers were Shane Woods, Austin Woods, Rodney Pope, Ryan Pope, Mike White and Aaron White. Aaron White and Austin Woods folded the flag and presented it to Eugene’s wife, their great-grandmother.
