John Edward Sherrod, 87

   Graveside services for John Edward Sherrod, 87, of Hephzibah will be held Friday, Feb. 27, 2015 at 2 p.m. in Union Grove Methodist Church in Midville. He died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015 at his son’s residence in Midville.

   Mr. Sherrod was born in Emanuel County. He was the son of the late John Horace Sherrod and Anne Frances Beckworth Sherrod. He lived in Hephzibah for the past 40 years and retired from Lilly Tulip after 42 years of services as a pressman and a mechanic. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his job. He was an avid horse lover, where he trained race horses for 21 years. His favorite pasttime was dancing and watching Atlanta Braves baseball.

   Survivors include his son, Donald Sherrod of Midville; two sisters, Annie Mae Johnson of Midville and Marguerite Rollins of Augusta; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a special friend and one sister-in-law.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

   Poteet Funeral Home of Augusta has charge of arrangements.
