Georgia Athletic Club team wins ESPN Memorial Day Classic

Fresh off the cusp of the Super Regional Championship in Macon on May 10-12, Georgia Athletic Club (GAC) basketball team continues their winning streak. GAC comprised of 5th and 6th graders, won the AAU Division II ESPN Memorial Day Classic Championship in Orlando Florida May 23-26.
The team consists of Najayah Young, Darrell Smith, Derrick Jones, Julius King Jr, DeAngelo Hines, Jaylen Somerville, Coach Edmond, Jacolby Gibbons, T’Quavion King, Kesabian Mitchell, D’Eryk Jackson, Immanuel Hackett, Christopher Floyd and Coach Hines. Gibbons, Hackett, Young, Jones and Somerville are all from Swainsboro.
GAC opened pool play with victories over the Brevard Bulls, Chancellor Chargers, and Miami Warriors. The victories advanced the squad to the final four, where it defeated South Carolina’s Elite Orange 39-22. The team sealed the tournament in the last three seconds with a 32-31 triumph over the Florida Cats in the final.
GACs’ 8th grade team is ranked third in Georgia and recently won the Super Regional Championship in Macon.
GAC AAU Basketball organization is an AAU basketball club consisting of boys from Emanuel, Laurens and Wilkerson’s county. The focus of this team is to learn the fundamentals and skills needed to contend at the highest level of basketball competition. The coaches emphasize good sportsmanship, teamwork, respect for each other and leadership on and off the court. The goal is to prepare young men to face everyday challenges, to persevere, learn discipline and aid in their preparation to achieve life’s goals.
