The David Emanuel Eagles broke open a close game by outscoring visiting St. Andrews 20-5 in the fourth quarter in taking a 53-36 win on Thursday, December 19 in Stillmore. The win snapped a three-game losing skid for DEA.

“It was a much need win,” said Head Coach Andy Callaway. “We have struggled in the fourth quarter of some games, but in this one we definitely finished strong.”

The Eagles held the Lions to scoreless from the field and made 10 of 13 free throws in the final eight minutes. Fate Beecher scored six of his nine points and three of the team’s four field goals with tough play near the basket during the fourth quarter.

Daniel Overstreet led DEA with 18 points and Brent McNure added 15 more, including five of six from the free throw line.

“Daniel has led us in scoring all year and this was a season high in scoring for Brent. They are our two most experienced players and we count on them both to do so much offensively and defensively,” said Callaway.

BJ Callaway had six points, Nathan Greene had three and Zach Hooks had two to complete the DEA scoring.

The Eagles finished up the 2013 part of the schedule with a 54-29 loss to Bulloch Academy, who came to Stillmore on Friday, December 20. The Gators had three players in double figures, led by Bill Shephard with 14 and Hunter Perry and Will Marsh with ten each. Daniel Overstreet led DEA with ten points, followed by Nathan Green with six, Zach Hooks and BJ Callaway with four each, Scott Bray and Brent McNure with two each and Fate Beecher with one as the Eagles dropped to 3-5 on the season.

“Bulloch is by far the best defensive team we have seen all season. They held us to under 30 points in both meetings this year,” said Callaway. “It was a struggle to get in our offense at times, especially in the first half.”

The Eagles will travel to Waynesboro to play Edmund Burke Academy on Saturday with the varsity boys tipping off at around 6 p.m. The middle school games begin at 2 p.m. and the varsity girls starting at 4:30. DEA will be at home on Tuesday January 7 to face Thomas Jefferson Academy. Middle school games start at 4 p.m. and varsity at 6:30.
