John W. “Bill” Sconyers, 75

   Memorial services for John W. “Bill” Sconyers, 75, will be held Friday, May 3, 2013 at 6;30 p.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ben Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 5 p.m. until time of service. He died Monday, April 29, 2013 at his residence.

   Mr. Sconyers was born in Swainsboro. After graduating in 1956 from Swainsboro High School with accomplishments as a singer, he attend the University of Georgia, placing 1st in the state trumpet competitions. Leaving the University of Georgia to join the military, serving in Okinawa, Japan he played with the 3rd Army band. He loved nature, fishing most of all, followed closely by jewelry designing and collecting Indian artifacts. It was said at one time he had acquired more than the Smithsonian. In recent years, he developed a love for wine making, sharing with his wide circle of friends his love of cookouts. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Walter and Eathel Rich Sconyers; brother, James Sconyers and step-father, Julius Curry.

   Survivors include one sister, Ellen Miller (Robert N.) of Brazil, Ind.; one brother, George Sconyers (Carol) of Alhambra, Ill.; one step-brother, David Curry (Debbie) of Mt. Vernon; several nieces, nephews and extended family; and his beloved four legged companions, Baby Sport and Booby.

   Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors have charge of arrangements.
