The Southern Dance Connection is honored to have four students selected to perform in the upcoming Theatre Dublin’s Nutcracker.
Belinda Counsell, Amy Dalton, Kailie Sanders and Karley Sanders, all students of The Southern Dance Connection in Swainsboro, have auditioned and received parts in Theatre Dublin’s production of The Nutcracker this year.
Kailie, a 17 year old Company Member of the S.D.C., will dance the parts of The Snow Queen and Flower Demi-Soloist. Kailie is most excited about the role of The Snow Queen, which will be a duet danced with the male professional dancer, Raul Peinado, who is hired from Atlanta to dance the role of Snow King and Sugar Plum Cavalier each year. Kailie has been a dance student at The Southern Dance Connection since the age of three and is instructed by Mrs. Brooke Boatright Johnson, Mrs. Melonie Thompson Jones and Mrs. Kathy Bartram. Kailie has been dancing en pointe since fifth grade. This will be her sixth performance in the Nutcracker. In the past years she has danced the parts of Black Sheep, Angel, Chinese, Arabian Princess, Flower, Flower Demi-Soloist, Snowflake, Harlequin Doll, and Columbine Doll.
Kailie’s sister Karley, a 14 year old Company Member of the S.D.C., received exciting parts in this year’s production also. She will dance the role of Arabian Princess, Flower Demi-Soloist and Snow. Karley has also danced in six performances of Nutcracker and was selected for the part of Clara in 2008. Other parts she has danced include Chinese, Spanish, Dancing Candy Cane, Tall Soldier, Cupcake and Maid. Karley is also a student at The Southern Dance Connection since the age of three and is instructed by Mrs. Brooke Boatright Johnson, Mrs. Melonie Thompson Jones and Mrs. Kathy Bartram.
Amy Dalton, a 10 year old Junior Student of the S.D.C., is thrilled to be performing one of her favorite parts this year as one of the Rats. Amy receives instruction weekly in Tap, Jazz and Ballet by Mrs. Brooke Boatright Johnson, Mrs. Melonie Thompson Jones and Mrs. Kathy Bartram.
Belinda Counsel, a 6 year old Primary Student of the S.D.C., will be performing for the first time in The Nutcracker. She will play the role of a Little Mouse. Belinda receives instruction weekly in Tap, Jazz and Ballet by Mrs. Brooke Boatright Johnson and Mrs. Kathy Bartram.
Nutcracker Dublin is under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer Reynolds and Miss Leslie Hutcheson, along with special direction from Stacy Slichter, professional ballerina from Atlanta. Auditions are held in Dublin each year in August and rehearsals begin in September. Approximately eight weekends and several week day practices are required to get ready for the show. Stacy Slichter dances the role of Sugar Plum Fairy and is an instructor at North Atlanta Dance Academy.
