Christmas Parade is rolling into town

by | November 29, 2012 4:54 pm

The Annual Swainsboro Christmas Parade will escort the Holiday Season into town as it rolls through downtown on December 6, 2012. Beginning at Mill Street and South Main Street at 5:30 p.m., the parade will proceed north until turning onto West Pine Street, where it will continue until turning south onto Green Street and ending at the Boneyard. Floats, marching groups, cars, golf carts, and more are encouraged to participate in the parade.

A total of $700 will be awarded to the best entries in the parade. Judges will rate the entries based on selected criteria including creativity and neatness. The first place winner will receive a $250 cash prize, with second place receiving $200, third place receiving $150, and a special prize of $100 will be awarded to the best golf cart.

The parade will be led by the jolly ‘ole elf himself, Santa Claus, who will then make his way to Patriot Park for visits. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras to take photos of their little ones as they visit with Santa.

Organizers invite everyone to come out to the parade early and stay late, as a great lineup of festivities has been scheduled before and after the parade. The Main Street Market at the Boneyard will host a holiday market with a great selection of holiday decorations, gifts, and more – many of which are handmade locally right here in Emanuel County. Immediately following the parade, the Emanuel County Pilot Club will light the community Christmas Tree, and the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce will host Carols on the Square featuring a variety of local entertainment.

The Emanuel County Relay For Life’s annual Chili Cook-Off will be held on Roger Shaw Street, pitting local businesses and organizations against one another for the title of “Best Chili in Emanuel County.” Parade spectators will be able to sample and vote on their favorite chili, all while raising money for the county’s Relay For Life efforts.

The Downtown Development Authority will also hold its 4th Annual Santa Drop at various times throughout the Carols on the Square. Holiday trinkets will be “dropped” by Santa’s helpers to the crowd below. Specially marked trinkets will be redeemable for cash prizes.
