Alberta Wilcher Young, 84

   Funeral services for Alberta Wilcher Young, 84, were held Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 1 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church in Adrian with Rev. Raymond Folsom officiating. Interment followed in Adrian Cemetery. She died Saturday, August 11, 2012.

   Mrs. Young was born in Bulloch County. She attended the old Negro Adrian School and became a well-known hairdresser. She mastered the art of cooking for several years at Adrian Housing Authority before taking a position at Miami Carey, where she retired. She was a member of St. James Baptist Church and a lifelong member of St. Phillips Lodge Chapter 114 OES of Swainsboro. Her favorite hobby was fishing with her best friend, the late Virginia Wadley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie and Hosea Cephus; two siblings; her husband of 45 years, Samuel Wilcher; and two children, Sammy and Betty.

   Survivors include daughters, Lucille Wilcher of Adrian and Cheryl L. Jackson of Macon; stepson Jimmy Bailey of Atlanta; three granddaughters; two grandsons; six great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; four nieces; two nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

   Pallbearers were Jhirmichael T. Williams, Xavier D. Wilcher, Charles Cephus, Terry Williams, Jason Williams and Darryl Graves. Honorary pallbearers were James Wise, George Cordy, Hubert Rich and Johnnie Whitley.

   Mosley’s Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
