Swainsboro Police received a phone call reporting a stolen semi trailer containing approximately 50,000 pounds of scrap metal. The victim reported the trailer was removed from a business on West Meadowlake Parkway.

Shortly after the report was filed, SPD officers received a call from an Effingham County Sheriff’s Deputy who reported the stolen trailer stopped on a traffic infraction. Investigators assigned to the theft case discovered some facts in the case that led to the arrest of Charles Wayne King, Sr., 58, of Millen. King was charged with Racketeering and taken to the Emanuel County Jail.

The investigation led law enforcement in serving three separate search warrants on three separate properties believed to hold evidence demonstrating the metal theft criminal operation had been taking place for an extended period of time.

Officers seized numerous items of value believed to have been purchased with funds received through an ongoing criminal conspiracy, including almost 90 firearms.

This case remains under investigation by the Swainsboro Police Department and Gerogia Bureau of Investigation.
