Christmas parade and festivities announced

   The City of Swainsboro, the Downtown Development Authority of

Swainsboro, the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce, and

Emanuel County Relay For Life announce the 4th Annual Swainsboro

Christmas Parade, Carols on the Square, and Chili Cook-off, to be

held December 1, 2011.

   Parade lineup will begin at 5 p.m., south of Harvey’s

Supermarket on South Main Street. The parade will begin sharply at

5:30 p.m. The route will be the same as in years past, progressing

north on US Hwy. 1 until turning onto West Pine Street, then

turning South onto Green Street and ending at the Boneyard. Those

planning to participate should complete a parade application,

available at Swainsboro City Hall and on the City of Swainsboro’s

Web site,

Cash prizes totaling $600 will be awarded to winners of the float

contest. Entry forms must be returned to City Hall no later than

November 22.

   Following the parade, the Pilot Club of Emanuel County will

light the community Christmas tree and the Swainsboro-Emanuel

County Chamber of Commerce will present Carols on the Square,

featuring local entertainment. An artists’ market will be held at

the Main Street Market at the Boneyard, where holiday-themed craft

items will be available for purchase. An antique auction will also

begin at 7:30 p.m. inside the market.

   The Relay For Life’s kick-off event, the chili cook-off, will be

held on Roger Shaw Street as part of the festivities. Teams

interested in participating in the competition should contact Jill

Harvey at (478) 237-6363. Santa will also be on the Square for

visits with the youngsters in the crowd. Parents are encouraged to

bring their own cameras to snap a photo of their child with

Santa.
