The Forest-Blade went to Washington, D.C. with Captain

Clarence A. Thompson, Sr., US Army retired. The Vietnam veteran was

born and raised in the Kemp Community, Swainsboro. Captain Thompson

held a copy of The Forest-Blade while he stood in the back

row, seventh from the left in the picture taken of the veterans

group in front of the White House.

The three-day trip was sponsored by Vets To Washington Project

for veterans and their guests. Captain Thompson’s guest was his

wife, Mildred Usry Thompson. Visits were made to the memorials of

WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, as well as other sites.

The trip is held twice each year, with WWII veterans having

first priority. The project CEO is Doug Hastings, shown kneeling on

the front row, far right of the photo. He can be contacted at

706-832-6483 by veterans who are interested in attending this

trip.
