Lloyd Elmo Portwood, 78

   Lloyd Elmo Portwood, age 78, of Savannah, died Saturday, March

26, 2011 at Candler Hospital in Savannah following an extended

illness. Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 29, at 12 p.m.

in Swainsboro City Cemetery with Military Honors with Dr. Steven

McVey officiating.

   Mr. Portwood was born in Jefferson County. He served in the

United States Air Force in Korea, was a retired Lieutenant with

Dougherty County Police Department, and was a member of Calvary

Baptist Church in Savannah.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Elmo and

Mattie E. Green Portwood; wife, Norma Portwood; a son, Eddie

Portwood; sisters, Wylene McVey and Linda Flowers. 

   Survivors include daughters, Tamara (Steve) Shuman of Pooler and

Anita (Robbie) Gardner of Milledgeville; sister, Nell Portwood Izzo

of Savannah; grandchildren, Melissa Pope of Richmond Hill, Sara

(Danny) Watson of Milledgeville, Edwin “Eddie” Portwood Spence of

Camilla, and Drew Shuman of Pooler; and several nieces and

nephews.

   Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of

arrangements.
