SPD implements Crime Tip Line

Swainsboro Police Department is implementing an anonymous Crime Tip Line. This new service will afford citizens the opportunity to report criminal activity anonymously to the police department. Oftentimes, valuable information may not be reported to law enforcement because citizens are reluctant to become involved for various reasons. In some instances, a citizen may have witnessed criminal activity, but wishes to remain silent.

Thirteen teams enter the Relay for Life Chili Cook-off

Thirteen teams have entered in the Second Annual Relay for Life Chili Cook-Off to be held Thursday, Dec. 2 during the annual Christmas festivities. The cook-off will be held at Patriot Square beginning at 5:30 p.m. Samples anyone’s chili for $1or buy a cup for $5. All proceeds will go to 2011 Relay for Life.

Wilbur Lucion Beckum, age 63 of Oak Park, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010 at home after a sudden illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Clint Hutcheson and Reverend Ronnie Collins officiating. Interment followed near his home in the Phillips Family Cemetery with Military Honors.

    Billy Ray McKenzie, age, 67, of Bartow, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at Jefferson Hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. in the Parkers United Methodist Church with Reverend David Boggs officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
