Local businessman and round-baller extraordinaire Dal Durden fires off a 3 point shot during halftime of the Harlem Globetrotters basketball game held at Swainsboro High School this past Saturday night. Mr. Gerald M. Tootle, age 63 of Vidalia, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at his home after an extended illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 27 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Henry Dowd and Celeta Hart officiating. Interment followed in the Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Wedrell Meeks, Lamar Fountain, Randall Foskey, Larry Williamson, Terry Horne and Harold Quarterman.

SPS 2nd graders perform Georgia History play

Second graders at Swainsboro Primary School performed in a Georgia History play on February 8th and 9th. The play “Georgia Our Home” was written and directed by Lacey Bishop, music specialist at SPS. The students represented political figures, musicians, and athletes that were born and raised in Georgia. TSA attends State Conference

The Swainsboro High School Technology Student Association recently attended the 48th Annual State Leadership Conference. The conference took place in Athens, Georgia. At the conference TSA members represented their school by competing against the best in the state, exercising their right to vote, forming friendships that will last for a lifetime, and touring the beautiful city of Athens.

Robert Milton Brown, 81

Mr. Robert Milton Brown, age 81, of Midville, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at Hines Baptist Church with Reverend Randy Walden officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeff Bunn, Ricky Anderson, Carey Cobb, Ray Wilcher, J.W. Hooks, and Larry Hall.

Emanuel County Sheriff’s deputies, along with other agencies, assisted Georgia Department of Revenue & Tabacco Enforcement Agents in executing a search warrant for alcohol related offenses at Club I-16 in Oak Park. The search yeilded over 600 bottles and cans of malted beverages, 17 bottles of wine, and 16 bottles of liquor, crack cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, two handguns, aand $800 in US currency.
