John Andrew McCoy, Jr., 80

Rev. John Andrew McCoy, Jr., 80, of Franklin Springs, formerly of Swainsboro, entered into rest on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009 at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 at 3 p.m. from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. David Hopkins, Rev. Doug Conwell, Bishop Bill Jones and Rev. Harrison Lampley officiating. Interment followed at Oakbrook Memorial Park.

Born November 5, 1929, in Greenwood, SC, he was the son of the late John Andrew, Sr. and Ruth Gregory McCoy. A US Army Veteran, Rev. McCoy served during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Holmes Bible College in Greenville, SC and was an ordained minister in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 50 years. During that time, he pastored several churches in the Upper South Carolina and Georgia IPHC Conferences. He worked for the City of Swainsboro as building inspector for several years while pastoring the Pentecostal Holiness Church on Lee Street. He was retired from Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, where he had made his home for the last 23 years.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Willie M., Lawrence G., Jack E., and Bobby L. McCoy.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 55 years, Rallie Davis McCoy is a sister, Gwendolyn McCoy of Greenwood; two daughters, Susan M. Carlson (Rick) of Spokane, WA and Rev. Janet G. McCoy (David W. McCoy) of Conyers; and one son, David Andrew McCoy (Kendra) of Cleveland. He also leaves 13 loving grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
