Rumble in the Jungle

Swainsboro High School hosted a cheer invitational Saturday, Sept. 26 at the SHS gymnasium. The competition cheering event brought in twenty teams to compete. “We were very proud of the support for our first annual cheerleading event here at Swainsboro High School. The community support surrounding this event was phenomenal” stated Coach Luci McNeely. In front of a near packed house teams performed from the middle school level to high school level. Coach McNeely also added “This sporting event gave many spectators an idea of how much athleticism, time, and effort the teams and coaches put into this sport”.
The event started with middle school grades at 10 a.m. Competing in that competition were teams from Ware County (2), Glennville, South Effingham, Montgomery County, and Camden County. After Lunch the Varsity and Junior Varsity squads took the stage. In the Junior Varsity line up Ware County verses Lakeside High School with Lakeside coming in first. In the Class A division Varsity Lincoln County High School took first place followed by Johnson County High School in second and then Emanuel County Institute in third. In the AA classification Varsity Brantley County took first place honors followed by Swainsboro High School for second and Tattnall County in third. Teams participating from the AAAA classification of schools were South Effingham, Westside High School, Ware County, Lakeside High School, Harlem High School, and Evans County High. Lakeside High School took first place in the AAAA Varsity competition with Effingham coming in second and Evans High School in third.
