    Jordan Hartley, Ashley Morris and Cheyenne Willis have been awarded Devereux Haigh Lippitt, Jr. Scholarships to East Georgia College.

    The honorary scholarship was created in 1996 by Mrs. Betty G. Holland (formerly Mrs. Lippitt) as a memorial to the late Mr. Lippitt, a former resident of Twin City in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, and her parents, General Philip S.     Benefit dance to be held

    A benefit dance will be held for Sam Price on Saturday, August 8 at Palm Beach Island from 8:30 p.m. until. Coolers or welcome, but no glass containers. The cost is $5 per person.

    Mr. Price is 40 years old and is legally blind, so he can’t work, and has recently had a stroke. Lets do like the good old days and help Sam from losing everything.

    For the final concert in their “Singin’ Summer Sundays” series, First Baptist Church, Swainsboro, will host “Common Garments”, a southern gospel quartet, on August 16 at 6 p.m.

    The quartet, consisting of Rodney Jacobs, Stan Sheppard, Mark Clark, and Darrell Dunn, is home based in Cordele Georgia. They present a program that honors God, shares the good news and blesses people.

    Mr. Bobby Harold Rogers, age 68, of Kite, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at his home after an extended illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 at the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Tillman officiating. Interment followed in Anderson Cemetery in Johnson County.
