Superintendent Butch Frye resigns

The Emanuel County Board of Education held a workshop meeting on April 27, 2009.
At the beginning of the meeting, Superintendent Butch Frye announced that his last day as superintendent was April 27, 2009. Frye was hired by the Board in October of 1998 and was scheduled to retire in June 2009. Frye expressed his gratitude to the Board of Education and praised the hard work and dedication of the Emanuel County School family. In his letter to the BOE, Frye stated that he felt it best if incoming Superintendent Dr. Tommy Craft have the complete latitude to make changes that he feels are necessary for a more productive school system.
During the Board’s regular meeting, Gail McRae presented the Early Head Start 2008-2009 Program Summary Report and presented the Supplemental Funds Application, which was approved. The student information system was also approved. They received tentative approval to rescind the Board Policy GBA. It will receive final approval after 30 days.
The Board then moved to executive session, wherein personnel was discussed. Approval to offer a voluntary one-time retirement incentive to employees with 29 or more years of service was granted. The resignation of Lacy B. Frye, III, Superintendent, effective April 27, 2009 was also approved. Erma Jenkins was named Interim Superintendent until May 26, 2009, when Dr. Tommy Craft will begin official duties. The 2009-2010 reorganization plan by Dr. Tommy Craft was then approved.

The offer of employment as a teacher for Swainsboro High School for the 2009-2010 term was rescinded for Tiffany Wheeler, pending certification issues.
Certified transfers effective for the 2009-2010 term were as follows:
Sonia Carlyle will transfer from a part-time administrative position at Emanuel County Institute to the assistant principal position at Emanuel County Institute, effective for the 2009-2010 school term
Boyd English, principal, will transfer from Emanuel County Institute to Swainsboro High School, effective for the 2009-2010 school term.
Wayne Greenway, principal, will transfer from Swainsboro High School to Crossroads Alternative School, effective for the 2009-2010 school term.
Robbie Warnock, assistant principal, will transfer from Swainsboro Elementary School to Swainsboro Middle School’s 8.5 Program, effective for the 2009-2010 school term.
Ronald Flott will transfer from a teacher/coordinator position at Crossroads Alternative School to a teacher position at Emanuel County Institute, effective for the 2009-2010 school term.
Evelyn Hall, teacher, will transfer from Emanuel County Institute to Swainsboro Middle School’s 8.5 Program, effective for the 2009-2010 school term.
Denise Warnock will transfer from the graduation coach position at Swainsboro Middle School to the school improvement specialist position at Swainsboro High School, effective for the 2009-2010 school term.
