Miss Emanuel County to host team for Relay for Life

Raven Hall, Miss Emanuel County 2009 is busy planning for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life here in Emanuel County. Along with many other teams, Raven will raise money and awareness to support the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving mission. She will also camp out for the night and walk numerous laps around the track. Because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the Relay For Life event.

Breast Cancer Awareness is Raven’s chosen platform for the Miss America Organization. As part of this platform, Raven plans to have her Relay For Life team devoted solely to breast cancer. Those who have been touched by breast cancer are asked to join Raven’s team, “Bosom Buddies.” Breast cancer survivors, caretakers or family and friends of those who lost their fight against breast cancer are encouraged to participate in this “all pink” team.

Since winning the title of Miss Emanuel County in September 2008, Raven has been very successful in raising money and awareness for breast cancer. During October, Raven sold large pink ribbons to area business for display during the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In April of this year, Raven will travel to Savannah to participate in the Susan G. Komen 5k run.

Raven has also had an entourage of friends & supporters who have dyed a pink stripe in their hair just like Raven has. According to Raven, “Coloring a section of my hair pink has proved to be a great conversation piece. It really opens up a door to discuss breast cancer awareness.” These supporters are also encouraged to participate on the “Bosom Buddies” team.

“Bosom Buddies” will hold a team meeting on Tuesday, February 10th at 7 PM at the Chamber of Commerce. Come join us as we celebrate, remember, & fight back!
