DEA’s JV Girls win two

DEA’s Junior Varsity girls basketball squad hosted John Hancock Academy of Sparta on January 20 and defeated the Lady Rebels by a score of 30 to 13. Macy Wiggins lead the DEA attack with 8 points followed by Jordan Brett with 7. Rounding out the scoring for DEA was Maci Bird with 4 points, Margaret Anne Garrett with 4, Kristan Rigdon with 3 points, and Sarah Fulghum and Sam Hadden added 2 points each. DEA raced out to an early 8-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. On Saturday Jan 24 DEA traveled to Baxley to face the Lady Eagles of Appling Christian Academy in a rematch of earlier contest when Appling cruised over the DEA hoopsters. The Stillmore cagers were down early in this contest and trailed 10 to 5 after the first stanza. However, the second quarter saw DEA explode for 17 points as they netted 11 points from the charity stripe and took at 22 to 16 lead at the half. The second half was a see-saw battle and DEA trailed briefly in the fourth quarter before they rallied for 11 fourth quarter points to edge Appling by a 36 to 31 final score. Kristan Rigdon sank two critical free throws and then fast break baskets by Jordan Brett and Margaret Anne Garret sealed the win. The DEA attack was led by Jordan Brett with 16 points including 8 of 10 free throws. Sarah Fulghum added 9 points in the winning effort including 5 of 8 from the line. Rounding out the DEA scoring was Kristan Rigdon and Maci Bird with 4 points each. Margaret Anne Garret had 2 points and Sam Hadden added 1 point.

In boys action the DEA JV boys were defeated by Appling Christian 59 to 41 in a hard fought contest. The Appling boys parlayed 30 free throw attempts into 18 points to secure the margin of victory. DEA’s attack was keyed by Blake Patterson with 15 points followed by Seth Durden with 12 points. Trey Carter added 7 points, Brent McNure added 3 and Justin Nasworthy and Vance Bowen each added 2 points for the Eagles. The JV squads next see action when they host Edmund Burke on Jan. 27 and Thomas Jefferson on Jan. 30.
