Walgreens opens its doors

On Thursday, July 24, 2008 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Walgreens held an Open House and grand opening celebration to celebrate their new Swainsboro location. It was definitely the Thursday place to be, as many prominent members of the community wandered the aisles of Swainsboro’s newest store.

    Hunter Evans Gay was recently chosen Most Valuable Offensive Lineman at David Shuman’s National Underclassmen Combine in Atlanta.

    The Combine is part of a national series of football events at which the participants demonstrate various athletic skills. The athletes are ranked according to performance and their statistics are placed on the Cleaning House Database, where college scouts can evaluate the recruit rankings and identify prospective players.

    Swainsboro Tigers 8 and under baseball team battled extreme heat and some tough opponents to take down 3rd place in the first annual “Bash in the ‘Boro” on July 19. Swainsboro defeated the Dublin Mad Batters and the Effingham Diamond Dawgs by double digits before falling in their final two contests.     Miss Kelly Lynette Lane and Mr. Bryson Avery Collins were united in a double ring ceremony October 20, 2007, 5 p.m., at Canoochee Baptist Church. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Grady Collins, uncle of the groom.

    The bride is the daughter of Johnny and Donna Lane of Canoochee. The groom is the son of James and Betty Collins of Metter and the late Hazel Collins.

  • Suspects arrested in armed robbery

    Detective Sargeant Joe Cephus arrested and charged Tony Hackett, 23, with the armed robbery on N. Racetrack St. which took place on July 18 at around 4:20 p.m. The first suspect in the case, Maurice Pullens, 20, who was arrested last week, was also charged with armed robbery. Both young men are from Swainsboro.
