BBQ plate sale

A barbecue chicken plate sale will be held Saturday, April 5 in the parking lot of Harvey’s Supermarket from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Each plate is $5 and consists of BBQ chicken, potato salad, green beans, bread and a slice of cake. The event is sponsored by Nordson Corporation’s Relay for Life Team. All proceeds will go to Relay for Life and funds will by matched by Nordson Corporation.

Cemetery cleanup

Everyone is encouraged to help with a cleanup day at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, west of Swainsboro, on Saturday, April 5. There will also be placement of stones on some of the unmarked graves. Please bring hand tools, gloves, a sandwich and a chair. Beverages, cups and ice will be provided. The first burial in the cemetery was in 1877. Surnames included in the large cemetery are Thompson, Youngblood, Hall, Rowell, Kitchen[s], L u m l e y , Moore, Faircloth, and others. Philip Stephens of Soperton is the current president of the Reubin Thompson Family Association and local directors are Mrs. Garry Pittman and Mrs.Wiley Walker.
