Extension sponsored educational programs

Listed below are several Extension Service educational programs that will be offered during the months of February, March, and April. Some programs are for commercial farmers and others are for homeowners and gardeners. Please call the Emanuel County Extension Office to pre-register for the classes. Participants with a current Private Pesticide License will receive one hour of re-certification credit for each class attended.

February 19th – Backyard Pecan Production – I will cover pecan tree fertility, insect control, irrigation and other areas of management that are practical for non-commercial pecan production. The program is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the 4-H Clubhouse on Electric Drive in Swainsboro.

March 11th – Soybean Production Update – Dr. Phillip Roberts will be in Swainsboro to present a Soybean Production Update for 2008. Issues to be covered will include insect and disease control, varieties, and other UGA soybean research results. The program is scheduled for 12:00 noon at the 4-H Clubhouse.

March 20th – Peanut, Corn and Soybean Weed Control – Dr. Eric Prostko will be in Swainsboro to present an informative program on controlling weeds in Peanuts, Corn and Soybeans. The program is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the 4-H Clubhouse in Swainsboro.

March 24th – Pond Weed Control – Dr. Gary Burtle, Extension Aquaculture Specialist, will be in Swainsboro to discuss controlling weeds in ponds. Dr. Burtle will concentrate on weed identification and proper, effective and safe pond weed control. The program is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the 4-H Clubhouse.

April 3rd – Backyard Vegetable Gardening – Jerald Larson and I will present an informative program on backyard vegetable gardening. Topics will include nematodes, fertility, disease control and other hard to issues of importance to gardeners of our area. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the 4-H Clubhouse.
