Ellis Stapleton, 63

KITE—Funeral for Ellis Stapleton, 63, was held Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Rehoboth Baptist Church near Kite with Rev. Sammy Hall and Chris Stapleton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Rev. Arthur Conley officiating. He died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at Emanuel Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mr. Stapleton was a native of Johnson County, a retired brick mason and carpenter for over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Ethel Pernell Stapleton, sister, Vdie Lee and brother, W.H. Stapleton.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Stapleton of Kite; two daughters, Marie Stapleton of Kite; and Sue Webb of Wrightsville; four sons, Shannon Stapleton, Sherman Stapleton and Steven Stapleton all of Kite; and Stony Stapleton of Moore’s Chapel Community; four sisters, Claudia Hopkins of Moore’s Chapel Community; Linnie Lee Stapleton of Swainsboro; Virginia Coleman of Meeks; and Evalena Meeks of Kite; three brothers, Elize Stapleton and Ellie Stapleton of Kite; and Jimmy Lee Stapleton of Adrian; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a special aunt, Mattie Dee Brantley of Kite; and his father-in-law, Randolph Shepard of Kite.

Pallbearers were Wilbur Wilkerson, Tim Stapleton, Frank Stapleton, Robin Stapleton, Andy Tant, Billy Tant, Sammy Henry, Jessie Henry, Kyle Stapleton, James Ervin Stapleton, Kevin Stapleton, and Doug Lawerence. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Smith, Mike Lake, John Powell, Bob Newsome, Joe Harry Rowland, Herman Price, Gary Lindsey, Carson Cross, Sonny Norris, David Martin and Joe Sumner.

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors had charge of arrangements.
