by Emanuel County Live | June 27, 2007 12:00 am
The combined choirs and orchestra of First Baptist and First United Methodist churches of Swainsboro, with several additional singers from the community, will present a musical patriotic celebration on Sunday, July 1 at 6 p.m. The service will be held in the First Baptist sanctuary and will be under the direction of Rev. Gilbert Westberry, minister of music at First Baptist.
The opening section of the celebration will be a salute to the armed forces. Any veteran having a uniform that he or she can wear, please do so. All five branches of the service will be recognized.
The second section will include a montage of early American hymn tunes and two pieces focusing on the heroes and the brave in our society. In addition, the orchestra will play a stand alone piece, Songs of America.
The final portion of the celebration will be an extended choral composition, Thankful to Be an American. Powerful arrangements of stirring patriotic favorites are woven together to create a majestic affirmation of our faith and freedom.
Joining Lacey Bishop, pianist, John Neighbors, organist, and local woodwind and brass players will be five string players from The Savannah Sinfonietta. The chamber size orchestral group will provide accompaniment for the musical.
This event for the citizens of Emanuel County is made possible through the financial support of First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, and the Mill Creek Foundation. Admission is free and a preschool nursery will be provided.
