ATLANTA—Funeral for Elizabeth Smith Jenkins, 92, was held Sunday, June 24, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Swainsboro City Cemetery with Rev. Wayne DeFore officiating. She died Friday, June 22, 2007 at Piedmont Hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. Jenkins was born on January 11, 1915 in Portal to the late Jasper Edmond and Mary Elizabeth Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Jackson Jenkins, daughter Meredith, 6 sisters, and 3 brothers. She graduated from Portal High School and went on to study drama in New York City where she was active in many different theatrical productions. Prior to moving to Atlanta, GA in the late 1960’s, she resided in Emanuel County with her husband and 2 children where she was active in many civic and community events. She taught drama and elocution and was an inspiration to many young people.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John J and Dianne Jenkins of Atlanta; a granddaughter, Jennifer Jenkins; three grandsons, John Jenkins III, David and Clay Lamb; and many nieces and nephews.
