Jesse Albert Durden, 80

METTER—Funeral for Jesse Albert Durden, 80, was held Friday, April 27, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Metter with Elder Mickey Durden and Rev. Fred Pifer officiating. Burial was in Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Twin City. He died Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.
Mr. Durden was a native of Candler County, a World War II Army veteran and retired after 40 years from the Candler County School System. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Metter and the Willow Lake Country Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.R. and Bertha Cribbs Durden; and a sister, Mary Frances Durden Shughrou.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Smith Durden of Metter; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and James Akridge of Twin City; a son and daughterin law, Jesse A and Kathy Durden of Metter; three grandchildren, Dee Akridge of Twin City; Katie Durden of Metter; and Anetria Akridge Edenfield of Swainsboro; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Zera Edenfield.
Pallbearers were Lamar Mulling, Travis Spivey, Danny Shughrou, Al Bland, Jimmy Wilcox, Ronnie Sikes, Craig Smith and Kevin Edenfield. Honorary pallbearers were Retired Educators.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.
