Tech child development center initiates parent advisory board

The Swainsboro Technical College Child Development Center held its first Parent Advisory Board meeting on Thursday, October 19th. The purpose of the Parent Advisory Board is to recommend any policy or program changes that may be needed, plan and manage special events in the center, and share concerns, ideas, advice, experience and thoughts with the director to help strengthen the decision making process.
The board met with Gena Sapp, Center Director, Sherry Rowland, Parent Coordinator, and Classroom Teacher Deborah Mills to discuss and plan future activities. A Family Night, Parenting Workshops, and activities for the Holidays are just some of the things that were the discussed.
The board is comprised of parents from each classroom in the Center, and was initiated after the Center received a $10,000 Quality Improvement Grant from Bright From The Start Department of Early Care and Learning. The grant will be used for activities in the center;
and members from the Advisory Board will have input on how on the money will be used. Lashelle Addison, Billy Jo Drake, Lisa Clifton, Tracy and Chandra Hooks, and Leah Rehberg are the parents who volunteered to serve on the committee.
