Swainsboro receives grant

The City of Swainsboro has received a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $500,000 from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The grant is for the purpose of to rehab the sewage in the De Alva Park area in the City of Swainsboro. The grant award was presented to the city by Governor Sonny Perdue and was accepted on behalf of the city by (left to right) Ben Turnipseed, project engineer; Al L. Lawson, city administrator; and Sen. Jack Hill, Sara Davis and Phil Davis, grant administrators in a ceremony conducted by Commissioner Mike Beatty of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs in Atlanta on Sept. 22. A total of 115 awards to various cities and counties were recognized on that date.
