Emanuel County Project SAFE (Shooting Awareness Fundamentals and Education) Shotgun Senior team was awarded second in the District competition. The contest was held recently at Beaver Dam Creek Sporting Clays on the Waynesboro Hiltonia Road between Sylvania and Hiltonia. Members of the winning Senior Team were Justin Coleman, John Buxton, Zach Johnson, Michael Henry, Wes Wammock, Chet Sconyers, and Jay Daniels. The team collectively scored 119, tying with a Columbia County Senior Team. The match officials broke the tie based on the number of perfect scores recorded by the team members during record fire. Columbia County had two shooters with perfect scores while Emanuel County only had one perfect score on their high-scoring team.
Two Emanuel County senior individuals recorded a perfect score and advanced to the tie-breaking round of doubles. John Buxton and Cody Todd performed well in the five rounds of doubles. John Buxton hit more targets than any other senior to win the plaque for High Senior Individual.
In order to advance to the State Match, a junior 4H member must hit 16 of the 25 targets. Senior members must hit 20 of the 25 targets to qualify for State. Fifty-eight local members shot in a District Qualification Match. Forty-one of those members recorded a qualifying score.
