Commander Danny L. Greenway and other members of the McLeod-Moring Camp 1386, Sons of Confederate Veterans recently presented a Civil War program at Swainsboro Elementary School. The fifth grade class of Mrs. Holder had recently been studying the War Between the States. Greenway was assisted by members Joseph W. Peebles, Emory D. Fennell and Donald E. Hall.

The class was shown photographs of several local Confederate soldiers that served during the war as well as those of the leading generals of the war. Commander Greenway explained the hardships of the soldiers during the war, their equipment, and the guns that were used.

Many items concerning the war were presented for the class to view during the program. Items included uniforms, equipment, a complete collection of Confederate stamps, musket balls retrieved from battlefields, and medals of Gallantry and Valor that were later awarded to surviving soldiers and their descendants.

The McLeod-Moring Camp meets at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at Lynn & Bob’s Restaurant on Coleman St. in Swainsboro.
