Hug your child!

The annual Hug Your Child Day was held on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, at Emanuel County Head Start in Swainsboro. Participating were, from left, Shirley Passmore and her daughter, Roesha Passmore; Melissa Phillips and her daughter, O’dasha Carswell; and Catherine Brown and her grandson, Robert Lee Brown.

    Frosty Orange Cooler

    2 cups cold orange juice

    4 generous scoops orange sherbet

    chilled ginger ale

    Pour about 1/2 cup orange juice into each of 4 tall glasses. Add a scoop of orange sherbet to each glass. Fill glasses with ginger ale. Stir slightly to blend. Makes 4 servings.

    Commander Danny L. Greenway and other members of the McLeod-Moring Camp 1386, Sons of Confederate Veterans recently presented a Civil War program at Swainsboro Elementary School. The fifth grade class of Mrs. Holder had recently been studying the War Between the States. Greenway was assisted by members Joseph W. Peebles, Emory D. Fennell and Donald E. Hall.

  • $28 million available for economic development in Georgia

    USDA Rural Development has $28 million available in business and industry loan guarantees to help rural start and expand businesses and create jobs, but funds must be obligated by June 30 or the funds may go to other states. Available funds are more than double last year’s allocation.

    The Child Development Care Center located at Swainsboro Technical College has been selected to participate in a research study being conducted by Spectrum Consulting, LLC., sponsored by U.S. Department of Education. The study is to look at the results of a series of selfpaced professional development activities on teachers’ classroom management.
