    Matthew T. Henry of Swainsboro scored a perfect 4.0 grade point average at Abraham Baldwin College for fall semster. The students had to carry a minimum of 12 hours of academic course work. Each student on the list also made the Dean’s List for the semester. Matthew Henry

    Akridge’s Big Catch

    Dexter Akridge caught two big catfish while fishing with his grandfather, Garland Akridge on Dec. 3. The fish, estimated about 4 lbs each, were caught at Dexter’s uncle and aunt’s, Travis and Elizabeth Akridge’s pond. Dexter is the son of Ed and Brandi Akridge of Stillmore.

    Audrey Perkins, 17, of Swainsboro, will be among five other models to be featured in People magazine, tentatively scheduled for release sometime in December. Perkins is considered one of the top six plus-size models in the country. She is the slaughter of Vicki and Nicky Perkins of Swainsboro.

    Ga. teacher salaries not keeping pace with cost of living increases

    According to statistics just released from the annual update of the National Education Association’s “Rankings & Estimates, A Report of School Statistics,” Georgia’s average teacher salaries have not kept pace with inflation over the past year.     Behind the hot shooting of Joseph Sparks and Adam Callaway, the David Emanuel Academy Eagles ran out to a 14-2 lead before outlasting host Bulloch Academy 40-35 in the opening round of the BA Christmas tournament last Friday night in Statesboro.

    TWIN CITY—Funeral for Otis Walker, 55, was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005 at Rountree Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Amos Handsom officiating and Pastor W.E. Johnson assisting. Burial was in Mount Gilead Cemetery. He died Dec. 11, 2005.
