Watson Lamar Samples, 65

METTER—Funeral for Watson Lamar Samples, 65, was held Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Canoochee Baptist Church in the Canoochee Community near Twin City. Burial was in Lake Cemetery in Metter. He died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
A native of Candler County, Mr. Samples was a captain in the Medical Corps of the American Division of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He earned a masters degree in education from Georgia Southern College. Before moving back to Metter in 1989, he was vice president and general manager of Cyprus Emerald Resource in Waynesburgh, Pa. He was former director of Risk Management for Emanuel County Schools and completed his term as chairman of Candler County Commissioners Dec. 31, 2004. He was currently administrative assistant to the Superintendent of Treutlen County Schools and pastor of Canoochee Baptist Church in Twin City.
Survivors include his wife, Laurita Jarriel Samples; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jonathan Lamar and Holly Samples, David Keith and Cindie Samples, all of Kingsport, Tenn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan Carol and David Alden of Kingsland; and six grandchildren, Seth and Miranda Alden, Hunter and Andrew Samples, Bailey and Kristin Samples.
Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
