Notice Of Location And Design Approval

Project: EDS-545 (48), Emanuel/Jefferson Counties

P.I. No. 222500

Notice is hereby given in compliance with Georgia Code 22-2-109 that the Georgia Department of Transportation has approved the Location and Design of the above projects.

Project EDS-545(48), Emanuel/Jefferson Counties is located along U.S. 1/S.R. 4 from C.R. 104/Cordie Road to the Wadley Bypass at U.S. 1/S.R. 4 Business for a distance of approximately 7.1 miles.

Date of Location and Design Approval: December 16, 2004

Project EDS-545 (48), Emanuel/Jefferson County proposes the widening and reconstruction of U.S. 1/S.R. 4 for a distance of 7.1 miles from C.R. 104/Cordie Road to the Wadley Bypass at U.S. 1/S.R. 4 Business.

U.S. 1/S.R. 4 is a primary north-south corridor in the eastern part of the state and is part of the Governor’s Road Improvement Program (GRIP). The existing roadway starts in Emanuel County as a two-lane facility with rural shoulders within existing right-of-way that varies to 200 feet. The proposed construction will provide four 12 foot lanes with a 44 ft. depressed grassed median that will transition into four 12-foot lanes with a 14-foot flush median at the northern end of the project to tie into the existing roadway section. The proposed right-of-way varies from 230 ft. to 250 ft. Approximately 50% of the existing roadway requires reconstruction, with approximately 0.5 miles of new location required to correct a substandard vertical curve. The existing triple 9’X9′ box culvert over Rocky Creek will be replaced with a new triple 9’X9′ bridge culvert. The southern end of this project ties into the northern end of Project Number EDS-545(50) in Emanuel County, with a similar rural section.

Drawings of the proposed project are on file and are available for public inspection at the Georgia Department of Transportation.
