Second annual Sunshine House skeet shoot held Nov. 10

The Sunshine House Children’s Advocacy Center held the Second Annual Five Stand and Skeet Tournament on Wednesday, Nov 10. The all-day event was hosted by Crider Poultry Inc. and held at the skeet facility of Mr. Billy Crider near Metter.

Participants enjoyed practice rounds and shooting skeet and trap in addition to the team and individual five-stand competition. Teams competing included Durden Banking Company, Handi House Manufacturing Company, Donaldson Surveys, D and S Electric, Hemco Inc., Beaver Creek Plantation, David Ball, and Crider Poultry Inc.

The First Place Trophy Cup will be maintained for a second year by Beaver Creek Plantation’s team. Second Place team award went to Handi House Manufacturing Co. A shoot off was held between the two highest individual scorers, Rooster Beasley of Beaver Creek’s team and Jim Brown of the Durden Banking Company team. They each had scores of 24 out of a possible 25. First Place Individual Award was presented to Rooster Beasley and Second Place Individual Award went to Jim Brown.

Other donors supporting the event included Elizabeth’s Place, BJ’s Sporting Goods and Pepsi of Metter; Shop Rite, Yardmaster, Mary and Jesse Deal, The Frame Shop, Donaldson Surveys, Pam’s House of Design, and Edna Purvis of Swainsboro; R. J. Pope and The Cobbler’s Bench of Statesboro; Panache and Savannah Luggage of Vidalia. Also contributing to the Silent Auction items were Farmer’s Furniture of Metter and Swainsboro, Air Tran, Alan Campbell and Beaver Creek Plantation.

David Beecher provided food during the day. Jerry Webb, Wade Bedingfield and William Donaldson prepared the 160 lb hog donated by Tommy Cowart of Twin City for the evening barbeque. Steve Hein from the GSU Raptor Center was present with two of his falcons and spoke to the group on raptor ecology.

Proceeds from the benefit will be used to support the medical component of The Sunshine House and the direct services provided to child sexual abuse victims.
